The barn still standing behind Mac-A-Cheek Castle on the Piatt family property is the only remaining section of what was the second (and possibly third) Piatt family barn. It was built sometime in the late 19th century with a modified post and beam construction. Remaining interior features reveal that it was used to store equipmentand grain and also for milking. As part of a project called The Family Farm, Piatt Castles Co., Inc and the Mac-A-Cheek Foundation for the Humanities are fund-raising to adapt the barn into a museum of regional agricultural history. When finished, it will focus on the changing agricultural practices at the turn of the 20th century and it will include an educational activity area and shelter. The quilt square design selected for the Piatt Castles barn is the logo for the Mac-A-Cheek Foundation for the Humanities. As a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, the logo represents the mission of the MFH, which is to interpret the interaction of culture, arts, and the environment in the Mac-A-Cheek Valley. White oak is depicted in the logo since it is indigenous to the Mac-A-Cheek Valley.
