All the framing material for the barn: Vertical pieces were sawed lumber and horizontal pieces were hand hewn. The original standing seamed roof is still on the barn. Archibald Magrew settled here in 1810. He died in 1855 at the age of 92. The farm remained in the family or with heirs until 1970. The brick dwelling was built in 1820. The original dwelling was a log cabin. In 1814, Archibald purchased section 11 in Mad River Township. The following year, in 1815, he had it surveyed into 64 lots, each one 1/5 of an acre. At this time it was called Magrew, but later was called Westville. The name "The Ridge" was given to the property by Archibald Magrew. Around 1980, Sally Ward Pickarski started a consignment craft shop in the barn. It grew from one bay to three bays. At one time, she had over 90 consignors. She continued until 2003. The barn was also used by the Westville United Methodist Church from 1977-2004 for the community barbecue which they sponsored every September.
